3/13/09 - National Scholastic Indoor Championships - Armory
They knew they were going up against one of the best hurdle teams ever in Sheepshead Bay, but Coach Febles' charges had eyed this date since the season started in the fall.  And like every Prep runner, they had a rich history on their side.   Andrew Hemmings, Ed Allison and Bruce Grant kept it close, and when Wayne Seaton crossed the line just .03 ahead of their Brooklyn rivals, the Prep faithful erupted.  A NEW NATIONAL RECORD of 29.15 (old record was 29.24 by Metuchen HS ion 1972) now belongs to the Rams!

Tantalizingly close to another National title only 3 hours later, the Sprint Medley Relay of Seaton, Grant, Zach Keefer and Mike Jennings just missed minting rings of their own, but set a new CHSAA record in the event, taking 2nd in the Nation.  Seaton led off in first place in 22.3, Grant handed off a close 2nd in 22.5, Keefer motored into first place with a 49.1 second 400m, and Mike Jennings ran his best 800m of the season (1:55.8) but just got edged down the straightaway.  Their time of 3:29.87 breaks Bishops Loughlin's league indoor record of 3:30.90, set in 2001.   Andrew Hemmings long jumped a respectable 20'10.75", and the 4x400 just missed the final (Grant 53.1, Petrovich 50.1, Rivera 51.6, Keefer 49.5  3:24.45).   The history pages are crowded in Fordham Prep lore, but new stories were added this weekend and there are still two exciting days to go!

Wayne Seaton takes 3rd place in the Pentathlon to earn his 3rd All-American etching, and as top finisher from New York State, lays claim to unofficial title of "top athlete in the state".   And his gaudy score of 3644 may be a CHSAA record--the 4th record Wayne is a part of.
