2009 Bishop Loughlin Games -
Armory
The last hurdle he scaled in
competition was 8 months ago. Then he crashed into an
official and ended his hurdling season just a month after
helping the Prep set a National Record in the 4x55m Shuttle
Hurdle relay. Now he returns after a successful
football season, ready to rewrite the books. He began
with a scintillating 7.59 silver medal at the nation's
oldest meet, holding the state's and nation's 2nd best time.
Also at Loughlin, Joe Paulus took 4th place in a PR 47 feet
and Mike Seminario also made the final. The Soph SMR of
Heitmann, Graziosa, Velasquez and Kennelly took 4th.

A Shot in the Arm...
A seismic shift is underway in the Bronx. The
Fordham Prep Rams, long reliant on swift legs, and recently
high flying vaulters, jumpers and hurdlers, find themselves
being led by the league-leading arms of Coach Phipps' shot
putters. Junior Joe Paulus headlined the "gun show"
that saw the Varsity SP relay win, and the Sophs and
Freshmen both win medals at the 60th Annual CHSAA Relay
Carnival.

Prep Takes 5th at CHSAA Champs
Gallo's 13:47 paces Rams to State Champs Berth
11/14/09 - 83rd
CHSAA Champs - Van Cortlandt Park
They were written off before the season started. Too
many heavy hitters graduated, little Varsity experience among
the current seniors, not enough depth. They'd never been
ranked above 7th all season, and most of the season were 9th
or 10th. But the Rams had seen this before.
On Saturday, the Varsity showed their mettle in the mud
by placing 5th at the venerable CHSAA Championship meet,
and earning the final State Federation meet berth allotted to
NYC teams. James Gallo (photo, r.) ran an amazing
23 second personal best to finish 21st (All-City) in 13:47 for
the 2.5 mile course. Ryan Fink dipped under 14:00
for the first time at 13:58, Soph Pat Dillon ran a
personal best 14:21, and seniors Tom Jennings, Eric
Englebrecht, Matt Pisciotta and Steve Pisciotta sealed the
win with fine perfomances in the 4-7 slots. See you in
Wappingers Falls on 11/21! |
